Which website builder has the best templates?

Squarespace is probably the best pick for good-looking templates right out of the box—they’re polished and consistent, so you can get a professional look without much tweaking. (tomsguide.com)

If you mean the biggest selection, choose Wix: it offers 800+ templates, though their styles vary more. (support.wix.com)

Quick take: Squarespace for design quality; Wix for variety; Webflow if you want more design control and don’t mind a steeper learning curve. (help.webflow.com)

The answer depends on whether you value design polish or variety, but Squarespace comes up most often for template quality. Reviewers consistently praise its designs for visual elegance, and one reviewer calls its templates the best of any DIY builder. The trade-off is flexibility: one review notes that moving elements outside the preset layout boxes can be difficult.

Other strong options:

• Wix has the biggest library, with 800+ templates across nearly every niche. Tom's Guide counts over 900, and it gives you more freedom to place elements where you want. Some reviewers find its templates less striking, though. One tester found the AI-generated design fit for purpose but not impressive.
• Shopify is the pick for online stores. Its themes are built around sales and checkout conversion rather than purely visual appeal.
• Webflow and Framer are better if you want template-driven sites with more design control or CMS features, though they have a steeper learning curve.
• Hostinger offers 140+ templates at a lower price, but it has fewer advanced features.

Bottom line: For the most attractive templates, especially for portfolios or brand sites, choose Squarespace. For the widest selection and most layout freedom, choose Wix. For an online store, choose Shopify. Most builders offer free trials, so you can preview template styles in the editor before paying.

Choosing the "best" website builder for templates depends on whether you prioritize aesthetic design quality or creative freedom. In 2026, the consensus among experts consistently points to two major leaders:

1. Best for Design Quality: Squarespace

Squarespace is widely regarded as having the highest-quality, most polished templates on the market.

• Why it wins: Every template is designed in-house, meaning there is a high "quality floor." Sites built with Squarespace are known for being sleek, modern, and highly professional-looking right out of the box.
• Best for: Creatives, portfolios, small businesses, and anyone who wants a "premium" aesthetic without needing professional design skills.
• Key Advantage: Because the templates are tightly controlled by Squarespace, they are consistently mobile-responsive and rarely "break" when you add your own content.

2. Best for Customization & Variety: Wix

If you want the largest selection and the ability to change almost anything, Wix is the top choice.

• Why it wins: Wix offers a massive library of over 800 templates covering nearly every industry imaginable. It provides an intuitive "drag-and-drop" editor that allows you to move elements anywhere on the page, giving you near-total control over the layout.
• Best for: Users who want specific functionality or a highly unique look and don't mind spending a bit more time customizing their layout.
• Key Advantage: The sheer variety and the freedom to place elements anywhere make it the best option for those who want to build a site that looks exactly as they imagine it, rather than sticking to a structured template.

Other Notable Options

• For E-commerce: Shopify is the industry standard. While its templates are often focused on sales conversions rather than just pure aesthetics, they are exceptionally high-quality and built to help your store grow.
• For Professional Designers: If you have technical skills or are willing to learn, Webflow or Framer offer unparalleled design freedom that goes beyond traditional templates, allowing you to build complex, custom sites from scratch.

Final Recommendation:

• If you want a beautiful, professional site quickly that is hard to mess up, go with Squarespace.
• If you want total creative control and a massive selection of templates to choose from, go with Wix.

Squarespace is the best pick if you mean the most consistently polished, attractive templates—especially for portfolios, creative businesses, and small-company sites. Its library is smaller than Wix’s, but reviewers often rate its designs as more cohesive and refined. ⁸¹³
